
Meet the Founder
Dr. Pearl E. Grimes is a world-renowned dermatologist and medical director of the Vitiligo and Pigmentation Institute of Southern California. The Institute’s mission is to advance the diagnosis, etiology, and treatment of pigmentary disorders. Dr. Grimes lectures globally on dermatologic topics including vitiligo, melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, laser-induced hypopigmentation, fillers, and cosmetic procedures for darker racial ethnic groups.
In addition to being a philanthropic enthusiast, Dr. Grimes also serves as Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the David Geffen School of Medicine, University of California – Los Angeles. She has authored more than 100 professional articles, abstracts, and two textbooks, including a recently published 36-chapter medical textbook for dermatologists and plastic surgeons titled, Aesthetics and Cosmetic Surgery for Darker Skin Types. Dr. Grimes has remained on “The Best Doctors of America” list for the past nine years and is a member of numerous prominent professional organizations.
Over the past decade, Dr. Grimes has been a steadfast advocate for disadvantaged youth. She believes all children have the right to equal opportunities despite social inequalities.
In November of 2005, Dr. Grimes founded the Coalition for At-Risk Youth, CARRY, a nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the lives of foster youth suffering from debilitating skin disorders and physical illnesses.
She credits much of her success to her parents, insightful educators who taught her resilience, compassion, and the spirit of giving. Her goal is to provide ongoing quality healthcare and educational opportunities for at-risk youth.
