Our Musical Theatre and Performing Arts Program helps CARRY youth to feel that they are very special, and incredibly unique superstars. This self-esteem building in turn enables CARRY youth to succeed in school, work and life.
Through our program, at-risk and foster children ages 5-10 are taught various styles of dancing, singing and acting. Kandra King teaches them every Wednesday from 12:30-1:30 pm at the Downtown Value Schools. The season culminates with a live performance by the CARRY musical theatre performers at the CARRY fundraising events and at the Downtown Value School Talent Show.
“Before I was part of the CARRY dancers, I felt like a chubby boy that would never belong. Now I know that I am special and that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to,” exclaims Dennis Gonzalez who has been in the program for two years.
“Before I was part of the CARRY dancers, I slumped over, avoiding other people at all costs because I didn’t like myself. Today, I feel like the Ugly Duck transformed into the Beautiful Swan. I want to dance forever!” shouts Giselle Mendez, who has now been in the program for one year.
